ทำไมต้องเป็น Royal Oak เพราะว่าปีที่แล้วฉลองครบ 50 ปี เกี่ยวหรือไม่
ถ้าคุยถึงเรื่อง Royal Oak มันไม่ใช่แค่เรื่อง 50 ปีเท่านั้นนะฮะ สำหรับคนที่รักนาฬิกา ชอบสะสมนาฬิกา หนึ่งในไอคอนนิคดีไซน์ของ Audemars Piguet ก็คือ Royal Oak ดังนั้นเราจึงชื่นชอบและอยากได้มานานอยู่แล้ว เพราะนาฬิการุ่นนี้เปลี่ยนโฉมประวัติศาสตร์ของลักชัวรี่สตีลสปอร์ตวอทช์เลย ยิ่งพอปีที่แล้วเป็น 50 ปีแล้วด้วย ยิ่งทำให้มีความพิเศษ เป็นโกลเด้นจูบิลลีเซเลเบรชั่นของรุ่นนี้ ยิ่งทำให้นักสะสมทั่วโลกอยากได้มาครอบครอง

คิดว่าเสน่ห์ของ Royal Oak เรือนสีเขียวนี้คืออะไร
สีนี้เป็นสีพิเศษที่เท่าที่ค้นคว้าและเข้าใจมาไม่เคยมีการใช้หน้าปัดสีเขียวใน Royal Oak ออโตเมติก 3 เข็มขนาด 41 มม. มาก่อน แล้วยิ่งพอมาเปิดตัวสีนี้ในปีที่ฉลองครบรอบ 50 ปีก็ยิ่งรู้สึกว่ามันคือสีของแบรนด์ เพราะตั้งแต่กล่องและถุงก็จะเป็นโทนสีเขียว ส่วนตัวจึงยิ่งมองว่าเขาให้สีนี้เป็นสีพิเศษสำหรับโอกาสนี้

เวลาใส่จริง ความเขียวของสีคากิกรีนมันเข้มหรือสดแค่ไหน การเล่นกับแสงเป็นอย่างไร
สีหน้าปัดนี้ผมว่ามันพิเศษมากนะ การที่แสงกระทบนั้นทำให้สีมีความแตกต่างกันในแต่ละห้องในแต่ละมิติของแสงเลย อยู่ในห้องทำงานผมบางครั้งจะเห็นเป็นเทาเข้ม บางครั้งก็ออกเขียวหน่อย แต่พอมีแสงสว่างที่เป็นแสงอาทิตย์ก็จะเห็นสีเขียวเป็นประกายชัดเจนมากขึ้น บางครั้งถ้าแสงไม่เยอะก็จะออกเป็นสีดำ นี่คือเสน่ห์ของหน้าปัดสีเขียวนี้ครับ

ความละเอียดของลายกร็องตาปิสเซอรีบนหน้าปัดนี้ชื่นชมได้ด้วยตาเปล่าเลยหรือไม่
ถ้ามองด้วยตาเปล่าจริงๆ ผมว่ามันอาจจะไม่ได้เห็นรายละเอียดที่เขาแกะลายเล็กๆ ขนาดนั้น นอกจากว่าถ้าแสงสะท้อนเยอะๆ อันนั้นก็อาจจะเห็น แต่ถ้าเราใช้เลนส์ขยายนิดนึงหรือซูมโคลสอัพด้วยกล้องมือถือ เราจะหลงไปกับลวดลายบนหน้าปัดอย่างแน่นอนครับ

งานขัดแต่งตัวเรือนและสายของ Royal Oak รุ่นนี้เป็นอย่างไรบ้างครับ
Royal Oak นี่เป็นอะไรที่ต้องใช้คำว่าจากรูปมันไม่สะท้อนตัวตนของเขาทั้งหมด เวลาที่เคลื่อนไหวมันจะเล่นกับแสงในส่วนที่เขาขัดเงาขัดด้านสลับกัน เมื่อใส่แล้วมันเป็นสายสตีลที่สบายที่สุด ปกติผมใส่แต่นาฬิกาสายหนัง ไม่ใส่สายโลหะเลยของแบรนด์ใดๆ ดังนั้นนี่จึงเป็นนาฬิกาแบรนด์เดียวรุ่นเดียวที่ผมใส่สายโลหะ

อยากให้คุณหมอเปรียบเทียบ Royal Oak 15500 กับ Royal Oak 15510 ในฐานะคนที่มีทั้งสองรุ่น

พอเห็นสีหน้าปัดนี้เปิดตัวมาในเว็บ บวกกับการคาดเดาตั้งแต่ต้นปีอยู่แล้ว มันจึงเป็นเลิฟแอทเฟิร์สไซท์เลย มันคือสิ่งที่เราอยากได้มากๆ เมื่อเรารีเควสท์ไป เราก็ต้องมานั่งลุ้นว่าเราจะมีสิทธิ์ซื้อรุ่นนี้หรือเปล่า สีหน้าปัดนี้หรือเปล่า ดังนั้นจากประวัติของการที่เราเป็นลูกค้าของ AP ประเทศไทยต่อเนื่องยาวนานหลายปี มียอดซื้อกันมาหลายเรือน เขาก็ส่งชื่อของเราไปที่สำนักงานใหญ่ที่สวิส เมื่อเขาอนุมัติมาในสิ่งที่เราอยากได้ มันเลยเป็นความรู้สึกเหมือนว่ามันคือรางวัลสำหรับที่เรารักและชื่นชอบแบรนด์นี้มานาน และเราก็ได้มีโอกาสครอบครองในเรือนที่เราอยากได้จริงๆ

สำหรับรุ่นนี้ ถ้าไม่ทันช่วงที่ได้โรเตอร์ 50 ปี จะยังอยากได้ไหมครับ
ถ้ายังไม่เคยมีสีหน้าปัดนี้ก็ยังอยากได้แน่นอนถึงจะไม่มีโรเตอร์ 50 ปี เพราะเราไม่รู้ว่าสีพิเศษแบบนี้เขาจะยังผลิตอยู่ต่อเนื่องอีกนานยาวขนาดไหน อันนี้อันที่หนึ่ง แต่สอง ถ้าให้เลือกได้นะครับ สำหรับผม โรเตอร์ 50 ปีมันคือสิ่งที่มีความหมายสำหรับคนที่รักในแบรนด์ AP แล้วอยากเก็บสะสม Royal Oak ดังนั้นเมื่อสองอย่างมารวมกันระหว่างหน้าปัดสีเขียวที่เราถือว่ามันเป็นสีพิเศษสำหรับตัวผมเองกับโรเตอร์ 50 ปี มันเลยกลายเป็นคอมบิเนชั่นแห่งความภาคภูมิใจที่เป็นหนึ่งในบุคคลที่ได้ครอบครองและสวมใส่นาฬิการุ่นนี้ครับ

สำหรับผม ถ้า 15510 หน้าปัดเขียว โรเตอร์ 50 ปี เพอร์เฟคที่สุดอยู่แล้วครับ ไม่มีจุดไหนที่ผมมองว่าควรจะต้องเปลี่ยนแปลงหรืออยากได้เพิ่มเติม สำหรับผมมันคือความลงตัวที่สุด

ความคุ้มค่าเมื่อเทียบกับราคาที่จ่ายไป เป็นอย่างไร
สำหรับคนที่สะสมนาฬิกาและรักนาฬิกานะครับ เราจะรู้ว่านี่มันคือคราฟแมนชิป ดังนั้น ความละเอียดตั้งแต่หน้าปัด การขัดตัวเรือนและสายซึ่งใช้ฝีมือมนุษย์ในการทำ เครื่องที่มีการขัดแต่งอย่างสวยงาม รวมถึงประวัติของแบรนด์และรุ่นที่เป็นไอคอนนิกดีไซน์ของวงการนาฬิกา สำหรับผมมันคือคุ้มค่าทุกสตางค์ที่เราจ่ายไปเพื่อครอบครองครับ

We asked one of our loyal readers to share some thoughts about his most prized acquisition of last year.

Following the editorial success and warm reception of a review article I have written of my personal Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT, I came up with the idea that I should ask fellow collectors to help share a few thoughts on their latest purchase. Their experience as owners and actual users must be far more insightful than journalists like us who spend only a limited time with a watch. So I figured one watch per person per month should do it. And for this first month of January, we are honored by Chidchon Sakjirapapong, M.D., a loyal reader of ours, who shares with us an in-depth evaluation of his prized Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15510 with the khaki green dial and “50 years” anniversary rotor.

First of all, please introduce yourself to the readers.
Sawasdee krub. My name is Plae, Dr. Chidchon Sakjirapapong. I am a permanent physician with the Dermatology and Aesthetic Clinic of Phyathai 1 Hospital. I also operate my own practice, D’Sine Clinic, near Kaset Intersection.

Why the Royal Oak? Is it because of the 50^th anniversary celebration last year?
Royal Oak itself is bigger than the 50^th anniversary. For lovers and collectors of watches, Royal Oak is one of the iconic designs of Audemars Piguet. It’s something I have always appreciated and wanted to own. This timepiece changed the course of history for luxury steel sports watches. The 50^th anniversary occasion only made it more special. That golden jubilee celebration has made the Royal Oak even more desirable to collectors around the world.

What do you think is the charm of this khaki green Royal Oak?

This is a special hue, which, to the best of my research and understanding, had not been offered previously in a 41 mm, 3-hand, self-winding Royal Oak. Now that it has been introduced in conjunction with the 50^th anniversary celebration, I could only think of it as the color of the brand. You can see already from the box and the bag which are all in this same shade of green. This is why I personally think that the brand intends for this to be a special color for the occasion.

How dark or light is this green in real life? How does it play with light?
This is a very special dial color if you ask me. It changes with the angle and the nature of light source in each room. Sometimes it appears like a dark gray in my office, sometimes it is greener. But with plenty of sunlight, the dial will become obviously green. This dial may appear blackish in low-light condition. This is the characteristic charm of this green dial.  

Can you appreciate the details of the grande tapisserie pattern on the dial with naked eyes?
You don’t see all the finely engraved details with naked eyes, unless when the dial is exposed to an intense level of light, yes, that will help. But if you use a loupe of try to zoom in with your cellphone, you will surely be mesmerized by the details on this dial for sure.

Let’s talk about finishing work on the case and the bracelet. How is it to you?
A Royal Oak does not reveal its true self through just one picture. When in motion, the alternating polished and the satin-finished surfaces will play with the light. This is the most comfortable stainless steel bracelet when worn. Normally, I wear only leather straps. I don’t wear a bracelet from any brand. This is the bracelet from the only one brand and one model that I do.

As you own both the Royal Oak 15500 and the Royal Oak 15510, you are most qualified to compare the two.
They are different watches from when you hold them in your hands, when you put them on the wrist … comfort and other aspects are all different. The 15510 is an evolution in design with a more integrated caseback that makes the watch sits with a lower profile on your wrist. Bracelet links decrease in thickness from the lugs to the clasp, making this watch more comfortable to wear. As for the dial, a lot of people complained about the absence of the “AP” initials on the 15510, leaving only the full Audemars Piguet name on the dial. Well, I think there is a pro and con for both arrangements. On this watch, the logo becomes more prominent, and the markers are longer and more symmetrical. But at the same time, with the “AP” initials missing, the dial does give a different feel from before. The 15500 has its own charm with both the “AP” initials and the full Audemars Piguet name. I wouldn’t be able to choose if asked. You should own both.

Are you troubled by the lack of a half link or a micro adjustment?
I am fortunate to have a perfect wrist for the sizing of a Royal Oak bracelet, whether we are talking about the 15500 or the 15510. For those who feel that they cannot get the bracelet to be sized right, they have a one-and-a-half link you can order through the service center. It can be a substitute for micro adjustment or a half link. It should help with the fit.

This Royal Oak 15510 is the acquisition that gave you the greatest pride last year, despite it not being a most complicated watch you bought. Why is that so?
It was love at first sight for me, having seen its launch on the web site, after having expected to see this color from the beginning of the year. I really wanted one. And when I requested the color, I couldn’t know for sure that I would be granted the right to buy it. My name was sent to the headquarter in Switzerland, based on my long-standing record as a client of AP Thailand with multiple purchases over several years. So once I was allocated this watch, it felt like I was rewarded for having loved and appreciated the brand for so long. And now I have in my possession the one watch I truly wanted.

What if you got one but not in time for the “50 years” rotor? Would you want it all the same?
If I didn’t have this dial color previously, yes, I would still want it even without the 50 years rotor. There is no way of telling how long this special dial color will be in production. That is the first reason. But, for the second reason, if I can choose, that 50 years rotor is so meaningful an element for AP lovers who want to collect Royal Oak watches. So it is a combination of pride when you have both the green dial, which I view as a special color, and the 50 years rotor in the same watch. I am proud to be among those who own and wear this piece.

Is there one thing you want to change about this watch? Not the price, of course.
For me, the 15510 with green dial and 50 years rotor is perfection. Nothing needs to be changed. Nothing is lacking. For me, everything is right with this watch.

Lastly, how you would you rate the value for money you get from this watch?
People who collect and love watches would recognize that this is craftsmanship. You have the refinement on the dial, the hand-polished case and bracelet, the beautifully decorated movements, the heritage of the brand, and the iconic status of the design. For me, this is worth every cent paid to have this watch in my possession.
