the-langham-venice-set-to-open-in-2026

Due to open in 2026, The Langham Venice is the latest departure for a hospitality group known for its family of distinctive hotels. This fine heritage resort will inhabit two quite different buildings; the historic 16th-century former Casino Mocenigo building and the 20th-century industrial Murano glass factory. The sites, perched on the lagoon, will be joined together by award-winning architects, paying homage to Venetian culture, while creating a new haven of luxury hospitality.

Murano Island

The 133-bedroom hotel will come to life, on an island where Renaissance architecture stands shoulder to shoulder with warehouses containing. Charting the journey from old to new, the development of The Langham marks a symbiosis. Guests will arrive by water before being transported into a past world through the Casino Mocenigo, where original frescoes date to the 150s.

Italian architects Matteo Thun & Partners have been given the responsibility of preserving this history while looking to the city’s future: “When we were asked by Langham Hospitality Group to submit our vision for a luxury resort in Murano, we were enthused by the unique opportunity to return historical buildings to their past glory and provide an extraordinary destination for the cultured, curious and fun-loving visitors seeking to experience the authentic Venice. We have worked closely with Langham Hospitality Group and the Venetian Heritage authorities to ensure that The Langham, Venice is an authentic reflection of the distinctiveness of Venetian culture and lifestyle. As the project starts on site, we cannot wait to see this vision materialise.”

Inside and out

While restoring the original facades of the old glass furnace warehouse outside, the building will celebrate Murano’s glassmaking heritage inside, with contemporary pieces on display across the guest rooms and suites. A private courtyard with a pool area (a rarity in Venice), will form the beating heart of the resort, around which the buildings wrap. This immersive lawned garden of tranquillity with its inviting 20-metre pool will be an artistic setting for swimming and leisure by day, with lighting and reflection transforming it into a sculptural waterbody – the backdrop for alfresco evening drinks.
