A blend of old-world charm and California cool, the thoughtfully redesigned Pasadena Hotel & Pool is immersed in history and heritage. And with its spectacular rooftop pool deck and stunning backdrop of the San Gabriel mountains, it’s truly a hidden gem.
A Spanish Colonial gem dating back to 1926, the newly restored building with 161 guestrooms and suites, occupies an entire city block along the Rose Parade route. The rooftop pool deck, open year-round, offers cocktails, comfortable loungers, and spectacular views. While its inviting lobby is filled with eclectic antiques and art, and the walled Spanish Colonial-style courtyard is a sun trap all day long.
Downtown Pasadena
It’s easy to find inspiration around every corner in downtown Pasadena, especially on the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Lake Avenue. Positioned along the famed Tournament of Roses Parade route and close to downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena Hotel & Pool’s location is the ideal destination to explore all Los Angeles offers. Originally opened as the Hotel Constance in 1926, touches of the building’s 1920s style and Spanish influences are still seen in the hotel, including the vintage tile patterns found in the original courtyard fountain.
New year, new style
The lobby, courtyard, and pool deck of Pasadena Hotel & Pool have all been transformed by New York City-based interior design firm Stonehill Taylor. The design team has thoroughly modernised spaces while paying homage to its past. The hotel’s original coffered ceiling and tile floors remain. At the same time, the warm and whimsical lobby walls have been repainted from off-white to a moody chocolate brown colour and infills of patterned terracotta tiles have been added to embellish the property’s original historic flooring. An eclectic mix of furnishings from flea markets, adds an extra element of character to a hotel already brimming with eclectic charm.
A striking wallcovering creates a mural-like effect behind the fireplace and phone booths. Artworks in gold frames add another layer of contrast to the dark walls. Notable elements include the portrait of world-famous chef and Pasadena native Julia Child. And vintage pieces highlighting the Tournament of Roses.
