The sustainable fashion brand Ecoalf has landed in the Madrid retail space Caleido. This new point of sale of Javier Goyeneche’s brand is its first CO2-neutral establishment. To develop the project, Ecoalf worked with interior designer Lorenzo Castillo and bioclimatic architecture experts MVN Arquitectos, who were responsible for conceiving environmentally friendly designs and low-impact solutions.
With a surface area of 149 square metres, the shop is characterised by the use of sustainable, recycled materials that can be reused or recycled at the end of their life cycle. The furniture is made of oak wood and covered with natural raffia, the high tables have a white clay tile insert and the terracotta-covered ceilings and walls are decorated with wooden beams sourced from Spanish forests.
Cushions and furniture are upholstered with 100% recycled polyester fabrics that give plastic bottles a second life. This sustainable material is also used for the curtains in the dressing room.
In terms of reducing energy consumption, Ecoalf has collaborated with the Spanish solar panel installation company Emovili. As a result, the shop has 15 solar panels made from silicone that are almost entirely recyclable, have an average lifespan of 25 years and prevent 2.95 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year.
As in its other flagship stores, Ecoalf will promote education and networking through “Act Now! Sessions” involving “sustainability professionals and experts to inspire change”. The shop’s proximity to IE University is expected to encourage discussions with young students.
“We are very proud to inaugurate a CO2 neutral shop,” said Carol Blázquez, Ecoalf’s director of innovation and sustainability. “We are committed to reaching zero emissions by 2030 and from now on all our shops will be carbon neutral. To really change the industry, we must put the planet at the centre of every decision we make,” she added.
Mango and Scalpers to also land in Caleido
Located in a new shopping area in Madrid’s financial district, close to the Cuatro Torres Business Area complex on Paseo de la Castellana, the recently opened Ecoalf shop shares retail space with Spanish brands such as El Ganso, Renatta&Go, Aristocrazy, Roberto Verino and Silbon, as well as other international names such as Calzedonia, Rituals, Intimissimi and Façonnable. Mango and Scalpers are scheduled to also open stores in the shopping centre soon.
The Torre Caleido building was inaugurated in September 2021, has 70,000 square metres of office space and is surrounded by a 33,000 square metre public park. It currently has a market value of over €300 million.
Founded in 2009 by Javier Goyeneche, the Spanish brand now has 1,500 international points of sale and a network of its own shops in Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Berlin and Tokyo. Led by Andrés López since the beginning of 2021, Ecoalf closed the 2021 financial year with a total turnover of 39 million euros and expects to close 2022 with a 50% growth in sales.
