The King and Queen of Thailand sent letters of condolence today (Thursday), addressed to the presidents of Turkey and Syria, following the loss of life in the devastating earthquake which struck the two countries on Monday.
In the letter to the president of Turkey, Their Majesties the King and Queen said that they were very saddened to learn about the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, which was an unbelievable phenomenon.
The death toll in the earthquake has now exceeded 15,000 people and it is expected that the number may double. There are many more who are wounded, missing or homeless. Moreover, vital infrastructure and houses were damaged, but Their Majesties’ concerns are with the victims.
The King and Queen expressed their sorrow for this great loss, but hope that Turkey will be able to overcome this disaster soon.
To the president of Syria, the King and Queen said that they were saddened by the great loss of life, missing and injured people as well as those who are left homeless by the earthquake and the extensive damage to property in Syria.
Their Majesties said they hope the disaster in Syria will end soon and the country will be restored.
