COLOMBO, Jan 24 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, said yesterday that, he handed over three billion rupees (8.2 million U.S. dollars), earned last year by the Bureau of Foreign Employment, to the treasury.

The money will be utilised to fund fuel, medical and other welfare bills, and out of the sum, 100 million rupees (about 275,000 dollars) will be given to the cancer hospital, said the minister.

Sri Lankan migrant workers remitted around 3.8 billion dollars in 2022, central bank data revealed.

The Bureau of Foreign Employment makes revenues from registration fees from Sri Lankan foreign workers.
