Tourism New Zealand has launched a new campaign to encourage dining and nightlife activities in the city centres of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Devised as a collaboration alongside regional tourism organisations, the campaign is aimed to support the main centres, and to generate more visitation across the Autumn Months.
New Zealand welcomed 360,000 arrivals in December, which is sitting at just below 70 percent of pre-COVID statistics from December 2019. Roughly a third of arrivals from December 2022 were holidaymakers.
The latest international visitor survey estimated that international visitors spent approximately $2.6 billion last December, largely thanks to higher-than-average spending per visitor. International visitors were primarily Australian, as well as vast numbers of tourists from the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
In New Zealand, there is a consistently strong demand for domestic holidays, with 70 percent of locals planning a trip within the next 12 months, and 44 percent have already booked one.
The main areas found that appeal most to New Zealand holidaymakers are relaxation, visiting friends and family, as well as to explore the country.
