Korea South-East Power Co. held the 37th Meeting on Steaming Coal Procurement and Handling at its office in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, for four days from Nov. 8 to 11.

The meeting was attended by fuel procurement officials from four power producers in Asia — Taiwan Power Co., Japan’s J-Power, Malaysia’s TNBF and Korea South-East Power. The meeting focused on how to overcome the global crisis in energy supply.

During the meeting, participants shared information regarding their countries’ current power portfolio, future power plant construction plans, coal market forecasts, and coal transportation vessel operations. They exchanged opinions about their countries’ inventory management strategy and the stability of a global resources supply and demand.

The meeting of fuel procurement officers was launched in 1981 for exchanges of information such as bituminous coal purchases and transportation among the three East Asian electric power companies — KEPCO, Taiwan Power Co., and EPDC, the predecessor of J-Power. Since the Korean government created regional power generation companies in 2001, Korea South-East Power has represented Korea. In 2010, TNBF, Malaysia’s state-run fuel supply company, joined the meeting. Now four countries hold the event by taking turns.
