Police from the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) have seized e-cigarettes, e-liquids and accessories worth about 80 million baht in raids on two warehouses in Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom.
Pol Maj-Gen Chatpanthakan Klaiklueng, TCSD commander, said today (Saturday) that the raids were the result of intensive investigations into online advertisements.
The seized contraband includes over 20,000 e-cigarettes, 80,000 bottles of e-liquids and many other accessories.
The TCSD commander said that e-cigarettes and e-liquid are banned in Thailand and cannot be imported legally. Importers face prison terms of up to 10 years and/or fines of five times the value of the imported items on conviction.
The sale of the banned items is also a violation of the Consumer Protection Act and the dealers are liable to five years of imprisonment and/or a 500,000 baht in fine if convicted. If the importer and the dealer is the same person, the maximum term of imprisonment is 10 years and the maximum fine is one million baht.
