Admiral Hotel Manila-MGallery has participated in the 75th anniversary of France-Philippines diplomatic relations by hosting an event.

The affair known as “Art on the Bay” celebrated art in all forms. It involved creative expressions through visuals, music, dance, fashion, and culinary arts.

It took place at the said hotel’s exclusive rooftop indoor dining venue, Admiral Club Manila Bay. The building’s al fresco rooftop bar, Coconut Grove, also hosted guests.

The latter kicked off the event with sunset cocktails and pass-around canapes. These included the likes of empanada caviar, bulalo summer, and kinilaw with fresh double cream.

DJ Agnes then turned up the music to complement the panoramic view of the Manila Bay sunset.

Two-time World Hip Hop Dance Champion UPeepz followed up. Performers from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and Alice Reyes Dance Philippines then took the stage.

The event proceeded with a four-hands dinner at Admiral Club Manila Bay. Here, executive chef and Cuisinier de France Cyrille Soenen collaborated with guest chef and restaurateur Antonio “Tony Boy” Escalante of Antonio’s Group of Restaurants.

The powerhouse culinary duo teamed up to serve a menu of Filipino and French flavors. Their servings included Chicken and Pork Inasal Pâté en Croûte, Lapu-Lapu and Fish Quenell, Crispy Veal Sweetbread, Beef Tenderloin, and Local Guava Ice Cream with Kougin amman.

Sensorial journey

Taking it a step further, the Admiral Hotel team, together with partners, made the guests’ dining experience a “sensorial journey.” It accomplished this by simultaneously presenting art pieces that highlighted Filipino and French talent.

“We curated the dishes to ensure we highlight both Filipino and French cuisine with our own styles. And match them with every piece of art being presented in between the five-course dinner,” Soenen said.

Specifically, the accompanying showcase included a video projection of silk and textile art by Filipino-French Olivia D’Aboville, along with many performances across a range of disciplines.

“I am more than proud that we were able to showcase the masterpieces of Olivia D’Aboville, Albert Andrada, and performances directed and choreographed by Redha Benteifour,” Admiral Hotel general manager Matthieu Busschaert said.

He expressed gratitude for the “good relationship” they have with the Embassy of France and the CCP. In fact, the event was made possible in partnership with the embassy and the cultural center.

“It was such an honor to have art enthusiasts, friends, and partners gathered in one roof. And pay homage to the French-Filipino art and culture in this kind of setting,” Busschaert concluded.
