Hyundai Motor Co.’s electric sedan IONIQ 6 has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a driving distance of up to 581 km.
The company said on Feb. 1 that a long-range 2WD, 18-inch model of the IONIQ 6 recorded a maximum driving distance of 361 miles (581 km) on a single charge in an EPA test. This driving distance eclipsed that of the Tesla Model 3. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) marked a maximum driving distance of 567 km.
The IONIQ 6 surpassed the Tesla Model 3 in electric power efficiency as well. The combined power ratio of the IONIQ 6 hit 140MPGe, which is also the highest level among electric vehicles sold in the United States. It is also the highest among the top 10 cars in terms of fuel economy published by Fuel Economy, an energy saving website run by the U.S. government. Miles per gallon equivalent or MPGe is the number of miles an electric car can run when it costs the same as a gallon of gasoline.
Hyundai Motor pursued the best aerodynamic performance from the early stage of IONIQ 6 development at the Hyundai Design Center and Vehicle Performance Development Center. As a result, the IONIQ 6 achieved the lowest aerodynamic coefficient of 0.21 among Hyundai Motor models, which contributed greatly to boosting mileage.
