The board of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) remains undecided over how to proceed with the controversial project to change the name sign on Bang Sue Grand Station to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, which is estimated to cost about 33 million baht.
SRT Governor Nirut Maneephan said today (Thursday) that the board is waiting for a written instruction from the Transport Ministry adding, however, that any decision will not affect its contract to change the name sign on the train station.
SRT entered into a contract with Uniq Engineering and Construction Public Company to change the sign to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, a name which was presented by HM the King, and to redesign logo of the SRT.
The Opposition and critics have complained that the new sign is too expensive and is not worth it.
Meanwhile, regarding the drama on social media over the parking fees at the Bang Sue station, which the SRT has set at 250 baht per day, the SRT governor said that the parking issue is not yet finalised, but he explained that the SRT has expenses in operating the station and, therefore, has to generate revenue to cover the costs.
He disclosed that the SRT will not operate the car park itself, but will hire a private sector company to do the job.
The station can accommodate up to 1,700 cars.
