These healthier granola options are the perfect way to kickstart your day

By theory, granola should have all the workings of the ultimate healthy breakfast and snack option. 

As a nutrient-dense food, a serving of granola every morning can do plenty of good for fitness enthusiasts who want a fast, nutritious option to fuel their days with. The toasted amalgamation of rolled oats, nuts, seeds, spices, and nut butters have been proven to be rich in protein (an essential building block for muscle growth), fibre (to keep you feeling satiated throughout the day) as well as vitamins and minerals. 

The benefits of eating granola can also range from improving blood pressure and gut health to incorporating antioxidants into your daily diet. 

Unfortunately, granola has gotten an increasingly bad rep over the years for being packed with added fats and sugars. As with many mass-produced foods these days, unhealthy fats are added to help with the toasting process and add flavour, which adds excess calories to the mix. 

To make it more palatable, sugar is also excessively added, so much so that some have nearly 20g (more than one tablespoon) of sugar in a single serving. Ingredients like chocolate chips, honey, and dried fruit with added sugar are also the ones to avoid if you want to get the most out of your granola — and we’re not just talking about unwanted weight.

This vegan granola checks all the boxes, especially if you’re looking to pack on the muscle without the added sugar.
