Suspects in drowned Thai TV actress investigation granted bail

Six suspects charged by the police in connection with the death of TV actress Nida Patcharaveerapong, aka “Tangmo”, were granted bail on a bond of 200,000 baht each by Nonthaburi public prosecutors this afternoon (Tuesday), after they had been escorted to the prosecutors’ office.

Also this afternoon, police submitted their report on the case, which is over 2,000 pages long, to the prosecutors, with a recommendation that all six suspects be indicted on various charges, ranging from negligence causing the death of another person, giving false statements to the police and destroying evidence to operating a vessel without a licence, littering and using a vessel with an expired license.

Spokesperson for the Office of the Attorney-General Itthiporn Kaewthip said that the six suspects must report to the Nonthaburi prosecutors’ office on May 27th to hear their decision about the case.

The five people allegedly on board the speed boat with Nida were Wisapat Manomairat, boat owner Thanupat Lerttaweewit, helmsman Paibul Trikanchananan, Nitas Kiratisoothisathorn and Idsarin Juthasuksawat, Nida’s manager. The sixth person, who was not on board the boat on the evening in question, was only identified as “M” or “Peem”.

Nonthaburi Provincial Prosecutor Supaporn Nipavanich has been assigned to handle the case. She told the media that she expects her team to be able to complete their scrutiny of the case within a month and, if not, will ask for an extension of up to 20 days.

According to the police report, Nida died by drowning and her death was neither an accident nor a murder.
