Omicron could cause up to 75,000 deaths in UK by April end, study warns

Latest live news: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday hold a meeting on the coronavirus, taking stock of the situation as India records more than 200 cases of the virus’s Omicron strain.

Delhi has the most number of Omicron cases; Maharashtra and Telangana take the second and third places in the list. “Covid always comes with mild symptoms in the initial stages. We’re watching any change in the pattern of the presentation of the emerging cases very carefully,” said Dr V K Paul, Member-Health in Niti Aayog, referring to Omicron.

India recorded 6,317 new cases of Covid-19 and 318 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the health ministry on Wednesday. The daily number for new coronavirus infections has been below 15,000 for almost two months now.
