LG Energy Solution to Build Battery Factory in Canada with Stellantis
LG Energy Solution will establish a battery plant in Ontario, Canada, with Stellantis, one of the three largest automakers in North America. The two companies will officially announce the plan on March 23.
In October 2021, the two companies announced that they would establish a battery joint venture with an annual production capacity of 40 GWh in North America. Since then, they have reviewed appropriate candidate sites.
“We will break ground in the second quarter of 2022,” LG Energy Solution said at the time. “We are looking to begin production in the first quarter of 2024.”
LG Energy Solutions is building its first joint venture plant with General Motors in Ohio and the second one in Tennessee. The two companies announced a plan to establish the third plant in Michigan. LG Energy Solution’s aggregate production capacity in North America, including that of its own plants and joint ventures, is expected to reach 200 GWh.
