Excessive fine dust detected in 40 areas of Bangkok and suburbs today

Excessive PM2.5 dust particles have been detected in 31 areas of Bangkok and in nine areas in surrounding provinces today. This is a clear sign that air quality is worsening and poses a threat to health, the Pollution Control Department reported today.

Readings from 46 monitoring stations in Bangkok and its suburbs show the levels of fine dust range from 34-98 micrograms per cubic metre (microns) while the safety threshold is 50 microns.

Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Khun Thian district was found to have the highest level of PM2.5 particulate at 74 microns, followed by 72 microns on Pahonyothin Road in Bang Khen district and 70 microns in Tambon Thung Song Hong, Laksi district of Bangkok.

In the suburbs, Tambon Mahachai of Samut Sakhon’s Muang district, has the highest level, measured at 98 microns.

The 31 areas in Bangkok with have excessive airborne PM2.5 particulate are:

  • Tambon Din Daeng in Din Daeng district 54 microns

  • Intharapitak Road in Thon Buri district 60 microns
  • Lat Phrao Road in Wang Thong Lang district 55 microns
  • Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng district 59 microns
  • Tambon Plabpla in Wang Thong Lang district 50 microns
  • Tambon Klong Gum in Klong Gum district 51 microns
  • Charunsanitwong Road in Bang Plad district 58 microns
  • Rama II Road in Bang Khun Thian district 68 microns
  • Trimit Road in Samphanthawong district 54 microns
  • Rama VI Road in Phya Thai district 52 microns
  • Soi Lat Phrao in Wang Thong Lang district 54 microns
  • Rama IV Road in front of Samyan Pathumwan district 58 microns
