CAIRO: At least 41 people were killed and 12 others injured in a fire at a church in Egypt’s Giza province on Sunday, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The incident occurred at the Abu Sifin church in the Imbaba neighborhood, Xinhua reported .
“Four of the injured victims were reported to be in an unstable condition, and 37 ambulances were sent to the scene,” according to the ministry in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement stated that the fire is believed to have started from the air conditioning unit on the second floor of the church building.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in a statement expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and government agencies will provide the necessary assistance to those involved.
