2,419 new COVID-19 cases today, with new cluster in Bangkok’s Rama 9 area

A new cluster of COVID-19 infections has been found at a condominium construction site in the Rama 9 area of Bangkok, where 347 workers have been infected, as 2,419 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Thailand today (Monday), according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

The new construction site cluster has raised the number of clusters in Bangkok to 53 in the past two weeks. The health office of the city’s administration has divided all the clusters into three groups, in line with the number of infections.

  • Cluster L which has more than 500 cases in six clusters
  • Cluster M which has between 100-499 cases in 16 clusters
  • Cluster S which has fewer than 100 cases in 31 clusters

In Bangkok’s neighboring province of Samut Prakan, CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that new clusters have been found at an ice factory in Muang district, where 55 workers are infected, at an electrical wire factory in Muang district where 63 workers are infected, at a garment factory in Phra Pradaeng district where 21 workers are infected and in the Wat Samrong Nua community, where 29 people are infected.

Of the 2,419 new infections reported today, 943 are in Bangkok, 597 in Bangkok’s suburbs, 756 in other provinces. 91 are prison inmates and 32 are arrivals from abroad.

33 more deaths were recorded today and 49,101 patients are still being treated in hospitals, including 1,233 severe cases, 355 of whom are on ventilators.

Cumulative infections, since April 1st, have now increased to 151,023, and the death toll is 1,175.

26 provinces did not report a new case today.
